1.Force-quit the game on Xbox to release cloud locks:Most common cause on Xbox Series X|S.
-
On your Xbox console, press the Xbox button to open the guide.
-
Highlight the game and press the Menu button (☰).
-
Select Quit.
-
Why this matters: Quick Resume keeps the game suspended in memory, which prevents the console from uploading the latest local save file to Xbox Live until the application is fully closed.
2.Synchronize your Windows 11 system clock:Prevents timestamp conflicts between devices.
-
On PC, open Settings > Time & language > Date & time.
-
Ensure Set time automatically is toggled On.
-
Under Additional settings, click Sync now to force-align your PC clock with Microsoft time servers.
-
Why this matters: Cloud save systems compare UTC timestamps to determine which save is newer. If your PC clock is off by even a few minutes, Xbox Live rejects the sync request.
3.Reset Gaming Services and Xbox App on PC:Fixes corrupted background sync handlers.
-
Go to Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
-
Search for Gaming Services, click the three dots (...), and select Advanced options.
-
Click Repair. If the issue persists, click Reset.
-
Repeat the process for the Xbox app.
-
Restart your PC.
4.Delete the local PC save cache:Forces Xbox Live to perform a fresh cloud pull.
-
Close the game on PC.
-
Press
Win + R, type%localappdata%\Packages, and press Enter. -
Locate the folder corresponding to your game (or search for the folder named
Microsoft.GamingApp...). -
Navigate to
SystemAppData\wgs(Windows Gaming Save). -
Move or delete the contents inside the
wgsfolder (keep a backup on your Desktop just in case). -
Relaunch the game through the Xbox App; it will prompt "Syncing data..." and pull down a fresh, uncorrupted copy from the cloud.
Handling the "Which save do you want to use?" Prompt
If Windows presents a conflict dialogue during launch:
-
Choose Cloud Save: If your latest progress was made on console and hasn't loaded onto PC yet.
-
Choose Local Save: Only if you made recent progress on PC offline that you want to overwrite to the cloud.
Caution: Selecting the wrong option immediately overwrites the cloud save on Xbox Live servers, making the previous save unrecoverable.
